New STC Directors-At-Large

STC President Linda L. Oestreich has appointed Michael Hughes and Larry Kunz to serve as Directors-at-Large for the Society to the conclusion of the terms to which Jeff Staples and Mike Murray had been elected.

Ms. Ostreich announced these changes in her e-mail of December 20^th:

“In the October News and Notes, I announced the resignation of Jeff Staples from his position of STC director-at-large. At that time, the Board decided to leave Jeff’s position open. Then, earlier this month, Mike Murray resigned his position as STC director-at-large. Our new bylaws state the following:

If there is a vacancy in the office of Secretary, Treasurer, or director-at-large, a Secretary, Treasurer, or director-at-large shall be appointed by a majority vote of the entire Board and shall serve only until the next election.

“In response to that requirement, the Board of Directors voted on and approved the decision to invite Michael Hughes and Larry Kunz to serve as directors until the next election. Mike and Larry are the two candidates for STC Second Vice President on the upcoming ballot. This morning, both of them accepted my invitation. They will begin their duties as directors immediately, attending meetings and fulfilling all requirements of the position until the new directors are elected. Please join me in supporting them as they embrace this new adventure in their work for the Society.

“The Nominating Committee has made some recommendations to the board for filling these two positions through elections. As soon as the Board votes on their suggestions, I will announce the process to you.

“In the meantime, I want to extend my best wishes to Mike Murray. I know that the decision to leave the Board was a difficult one. Just as I noted when Jeff resigned, we all must do what’s best for ourselves and for the people and organizations we touch. I’m sure that Mike will remain a strong advocate for STC communities and continue his STC leadership role in many ways.”
