Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are composed of members with common experiences and interests who share their skills and knowledge with each other and with other members.
Members who are strong professionals in their fields will mentor those who want to build a special interest group. Those members are “plank owners:” they’re the first in the group, and they decide how to organize the group and its activities.
If you’re already a member of an STC SIG, you may also like to get involved now with a local, chapter SIG. It’s true that the theme parallels that of the international group, but its focus is local and regional, and may have more direct impact on you and your colleagues. It may also have a stronger impact on your employment future. And, best of all, your involvement with a chapter SIG only complements your participation in a corresponding international SIG.
Note: In addition to the research SIG members conduct, each SIG will have an online forum to share their information and experience with other members.
Accessibility
The Accessibility SIG helps members better learn how to help ensure the accessibility of technical communication products to users who have special needs. SIG members research information about products, services, and literature related to the accessibility of Electronic Information & Technology.
Consulting & Independent Contracting
The Consulting and Independent Contracting SIG is a focal point for local information about practicing technical communication as an independent consultant. It helps new and seasoned consultants practice their trade more effectively.
FrameMaker
This SIG is for members who use Adobe FrameMaker® routinely and for those who want to learn more about the software.
Information Design & Architecture
The Information Design and Architecture SIG provides members the opportunity to develop knowledge and learn collaboratively about optimal ways to present and structure information in print and online.
Marketing Communication
The Marketing Communication SIG helps members network, exchange information, and receive education on marketing and public relations writing for technical products. Members are marketing and public relations writers, editors, specialists, managers, and consultants, and technical communicators interested in marketing communication.
Usability & User Experience
The Usability & User Experience SIG is involved with the usability and usability assessment of technical communication.
