The STC exists primarily “…to advance the theory and practice of the arts and sciences of technical communication.” Whether at the Society of chapter level, this is accomplished by good program. The Program Committee is critical to our success, which is to help members succeed and continue to succeed.
This committee:
- Develops programs for monthly and special meetings and schedules speakers, meeting places, and meeting dates with the concurrence of the president (meeting sites can be assigned to an arrangements committee manager
- Contacts speakers
- Secures biographical and presentation data from each speaker
- Maintains open communication with each speaker from initial contact through the presentation
- Provides details of each program to the newsletter editor early enough for the program description to be included in the newsletter issue scheduled to reach members at least ten days before the meeting
- Provides details of each program to the chapter webmaster at least ten days before the meeting
- Arranges to receive and record reservations and advance payments for meetings and special events
- Provides a log sheet for each chapter meeting to record names, membership status, and telephone numbers of all people attending the meeting
- Reports the number of attendees to the newsletter editor and gives names and telephone numbers of nonmembers to the membership committee manager for follow up
- Guides preparation and mailing of special meeting notices and/or contacts members by telephone
- Schedules at least one joint activity with another professional communication group
- Coordinates planning and operation of various chapter activities such as seminars, competitions, and banquets when requested by the chapter president
Note: The manager of the program committee is a member of the Conference Committee, maintaining a link vital to the operation of both committees.
